A commitment by the search firm to replace a candidate at no additional professional fee if the placement does not work out within a specified guarantee period.
Placement guarantees are standard practice in retained executive search, typically covering a period of 6-12 months from the candidate's start date. If the placed executive is terminated for cause, voluntarily resigns, or otherwise fails to meet performance expectations during the guarantee period, the search firm will conduct a replacement search at no additional professional fee. The client is typically responsible for out-of-pocket expenses (travel, assessment tools) for the replacement search. Guarantee terms should be clearly documented in the search engagement letter. Some firms offer extended guarantees (up to 24 months) as a competitive differentiator. The guarantee reflects the search firm's confidence in their assessment methodology and incentivizes thorough candidate evaluation.
