Candidate Assessment

The comprehensive evaluation process used to determine a candidate's qualifications, competencies, leadership potential, and fit for a specific executive position.

Understanding Candidate Assessment

Executive candidate assessment is a multi-faceted process that goes far beyond resume review and interviews. Comprehensive assessment typically includes behavioral and competency-based interviews, psychometric testing (personality, cognitive ability, leadership style), case study presentations, 360-degree reference checks, background verification, and cultural fit evaluation. Assessment methodologies vary by firm — some use proprietary frameworks, while others leverage tools like Hogan Assessments, Gallup StrengthsFinder, or DDI. The goal is to predict executive performance in the specific organizational context, not just evaluate past achievements. Assessment also identifies development needs and potential derailment risks. For C-suite roles, board interview preparation and assessment center exercises may be included.
