Executive Recruiters

Executive-Recruiters.com is a C-suite and senior leadership search firm placing CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CTOs, VPs, and board members across every industry. We operate on retained and contingency models, with nationwide reach. Our practice is built on confidentiality, rigorous candidate vetting, and a track record of placing leaders who deliver measurable business outcomes.

For nearly two decades we have partnered with founders, boards, private equity sponsors, and people leaders to find, qualify, and close the executives who shape company trajectories. Whether the mandate is a transformational CEO hire, a finance leader to take the company public, a CHRO to scale culture, or a board director to professionalize governance — our process is the same: disciplined sourcing, structured assessment, and transparent communication.

Why Executive Search Requires a Specialist

Executive hiring is fundamentally different from operational recruiting. The candidate pool is small, mostly passive, and heavily networked. The cost of a mis-hire — measured in severance, lost momentum, and stalled strategy — is multiples of a typical recruiting fee. And the conversation itself requires fluency in board dynamics, equity packages, governance, and succession planning.

A specialist executive search firm brings four things an internal team or generalist agency cannot. First, market mapping: a structured understanding of who the right operators are across every industry, geography, and stage. Second, discreet outreach: the ability to approach a sitting CEO or sitting CFO without leaking interest into the market. Third, calibrated assessment: structured interviews, leadership psychometrics, and reference work that surface actual capability — not rehearsed narrative. Fourth, deal closure: handling the comp negotiation, equity structuring, counter-offer dynamics, and start-date planning that derail unmanaged searches.

Executive-Recruiters.com brings all four to every engagement. Our consultants have placed leaders at venture-backed startups, mid-market PE platforms, public companies, and family-owned businesses. The work is industry-agnostic by design — what we share across mandates is the rigor of the process.

Retained vs. Contingency Executive Search

The right engagement model depends on role criticality, confidentiality, and timeline. Retained search is the standard for C-suite, board, and confidential transitions. The client pays in milestones, the consultant works the search exclusively, and the deliverables include a written brief, market map, calibrated shortlist, and structured assessment. Retained engagements typically place 9 out of 10 mandates within agreed timelines.

Contingency search is appropriate for VP-level and director-level roles where multiple firms may be in market and the client pays only on hire. Fees are lower per engagement but coverage is less exclusive. Many clients run a hybrid model: retained for the top one or two roles, contingency for the broader leadership build-out.

We will recommend the right model honestly. If the role is straightforward and the market is liquid, contingency is often the better fit. If the role is mission-critical or the timeline is short, retained protects the outcome.

Our Executive Search Process

  1. Discovery and search brief. We meet with the hiring sponsor, board, or talent leader to align on role scope, success metrics, comp band, organizational context, and non-negotiables. Output: a written brief that becomes the candidate-facing pitch.
  2. Market mapping. We build a structured target list of 80–150 qualified executives, segmented by company, function, tenure, and likely motivation. This is shared with the client for calibration.
  3. Outreach and screening. Discreet, personalized outreach to mapped targets. Initial screens cover capability, motivation, comp expectations, and timeline.
  4. Shortlist delivery. Within 30 days of kickoff, we deliver a calibrated shortlist of 4–6 candidates with written assessments, comp summaries, and recommended next steps.
  5. Client interviews and assessment. We coordinate the full interview process, deliver structured debriefs, and run formal references and any required leadership assessment.
  6. Offer and close. We manage comp negotiation, equity structuring, counter-offer dynamics, and start-date planning. We stay engaged for 90 days post-start to support onboarding.

FAQ

How do executive search fees work?

Executive-Recruiters.com offers two engagement models. Retained search uses a structured fee — typically a percentage of first-year compensation — billed in installments across the search lifecycle (engagement, shortlist, placement). Contingency search is billed only upon successful hire, generally as a percentage of first-year base salary.

What is the typical retainer structure?

A standard retained executive search is structured in three milestone payments: an engagement fee at kickoff, a milestone payment when a qualified shortlist is delivered, and a final payment upon placement. Total fees commonly fall between 25% and 33% of first-year cash compensation depending on role complexity and confidentiality requirements.

How long does a typical executive search take?

Most C-suite and senior leadership searches are completed in 60 to 120 days from kickoff to signed offer. Highly specialized roles, board seats, or deeply confidential transitions may extend the timeline. We provide weekly progress updates and a written shortlist within the first 30 days of engagement.

How do you protect candidate and client confidentiality?

Every engagement operates under strict confidentiality. Candidate identities are never disclosed without written consent, client search briefs are anonymized when sourcing, and all communication is held on secure channels. We are accustomed to running fully confidential transitions, including succession planning where the incumbent has not yet been informed.

What is your geographic reach?

Executive-Recruiters.com places leaders across the United States and supports cross-border searches into Canada and select international markets. Our network spans every major metro and includes virtual-first, hybrid, and relocation-required mandates. Headquartered in Texas, we serve clients nationwide.
